In late September 2026, the cybercrime group ShinyHunters claimed it had hacked the FBI's FBIJobs.gov recruiting portal and taken data on bureau employees and applicants. On October 6, 2026, the FBI's cyber chief said the Bureau's review had determined the incident resulted from a security failure of a platform managed by a third-party organization, after a contractor failed to implement a security patch explicitly issued to secure the platform, and that the FBI had removed the contractor. The FBI has not publicly named the contractor. Reuters and Nextgov/FCW, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that the contractor worked for Accenture and that the platform involved was Oracle PeopleSoft.
