Information about this incident and a simple way to see if you may qualify to be connected with independent attorneys.
Kohl's experienced an internal payment processing error affecting online orders, including Sephora at Kohl's orders, placed roughly between July 24 and August 5, 2026. Customers across the US report duplicate, and in some cases triple, charges on bank and credit card statements, as well as unrequested "phantom" return postings and mismatched transaction descriptions. Some report that charges appeared weeks after the original order.
Kohl's acknowledged the processing error and stated that reversals are automatic, with timing stated as 1–3 business days (some reports cite 1–6 days), and that it contacted affected customers. Many customers say they learned of the problem from their statements, bank fraud alerts, Reddit, X, TikTok or news coverage rather than from the company.
Complaints appeared on Reddit (r/kohls, r/Sephora), X, TikTok, Trustpilot and with the BBB, and the issue was covered by the New York Post, FOX News and the Detroit Free Press.
Possible remedies, if any, depend on the facts of your situation and applicable law and may include, for example, refunds of duplicate charges and related bank fees. No outcome or payment is guaranteed.
